Control of wah pedal?
I've recently bought a Zakk Wylde signature wah pedal, and ive been looking at a riff in a song called Immune by Godsmack. Im looking at the verse riff, which starts about 30 seconds in. Its meant to be in drop d tuning using the 7th and 5th fret harmonics on the 3rd and 4th strings. But i cant seem to get that kinda sound. Instead of the harmonics raising in octave and tone they just seem to raise in volume. What might i be doing wrong?
You don't have the Wah Wah petal plugged in correct. Set all your controls on your gighead to neutral or on the lower range. Plug your board of petals into the head and set the petal or petals to on. Your controls on your guitar should be in the middle so you can increase the sound volumn from the guitar. Now go to the riff, which is very tricky and just practice the riff and break, then the cord change and break and drop down and hit your Wah Wah petal. The octave change comes from the arrangement of cords on the break and the Wah petal at the same time. The drop d tuning , using the 7th and 5th fret on the 3rd and 4th strings is hard , but ever harder is using the effects of the wah-wah petal on the riff run ,back and forth. I am working on Dope ; Die M.F. Die and Mushroom head solo with three octave change and the Wah wah petal. You have to have control to use effects.
Have you tried starting with another Godsmack song that is not as hard and master that and move to this verse riff. Don't get me wrong. I tried that riff and it is extra hard , but after weeks of many songs did I understand the riff change. I love Five.Bolt Main, maybe try some of their riffs to see the progression. Trust me if you play lots of songs This riff will come to you one day and then WOW!
. Immune rules until you are standing in front of a marshal double stack at 3/4 volume. Loud ! Practice the beginning back and forth then go to the cord riff. If you have all the settings correct the Wah -Wah will change the cord riff to a higher octave and heavier tone. Just push down a little and listen to the cord fiff change on the long run at the beginning and the break, Immune is a Great song but with practice it will yours. Love Godsmack. Keep on practicing the riff and then use the wah-wah and then go back to the riff. It is all control . your cord, major cord, cord riff and effect. The metal effects of your Wah-Wah use depends on control
I really like " Straight out of Line". I really enjoy Tony Rombola. , much more I saw the Metallica /Godsmack tour . I saw Sully say in his intro " I STAND ALONE."
So practice and play and practice ; until you can play Immune alone in front of your stack .. At full volume.
