What guitar pickups should I look for if I want a vintage Strat sound with two single-coils and a humbucker?
Hello there,
If you actually want a vintage Strat sound, you will need to have 3 single coil pickups that have Alnico 3 or 5 magnets. The resistance suggested in a prior answer is a little hot for vintage Strat pickups. You may get by with 6.5 to 7.0 in the bridge, but the others should be lower. You may as well go with Fender pickups and look for those with Alnico 3 (or maybe Alnico 5) magnets. The magnets have a lot to do with the sound. That vintage Strat sound is a bluesy sound. You get that from string vibration. The stronger the magnet, the less the string vibrates.
If you want more information about pickup magnets, you can watch this video of Seymour Duncan discussing them.
The humbucking pickup in the bridge will take away from the vintage Strat sound.
