What's the difference between P, J, and soapbar Pickups on electric basses?
What's the difference? And would you recommend a soapbar pickup?

Those are J Pickups, they are usually made for Fender Jazz Basses, that's why it's called J pickups

And that's a P pickup, they're also known as split pickups. They're sometimes called P pickups cause they are mostly used for Precision Basses, also made by Fender.
I would recommend just two J pickups or the combination of P and J pickups. Mine has the combination and the sound is pretty good. My bass is this > http://www.blackdot.com.au/catalogue_images/Ibanez_SR100th.jpg
