Changing Electric Guitar Pickguard?
I have this guitar right here:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-Black-and-Chrome-Fat-Strat-Electric-Guitar-103212932-i1147427.gc
and I was wondering how would you take the Volume Knobs off. I think u need a wrench or something I'm not sure
The Squier site does no show enough detail to identify the specific style of control knobs; however, they should be one of two types. If there is a screw on the side of the knob, it requires either a flat-blade screwdriver or a hex-key (a.k.a., "Allen" key) tool to loosen the set-screw (turn counterclockwise) and remove the knob. If there is no screw, the best way is to position your fingers on both sides of the knob as close to the pickguard as possible, and pry straight upward. These knobs are held to the shaft by a split-knurled pattern, and should slide off with a little pressure. Failing that technique, make a tool. I used an old plastic spatula that already had a tapered edge, and then cut a 3/8-inch wide slot in the middle. After sliding the tool underneath the knob, grab both sides with your fingers and pull upwards. The knob pops right off! Best regards, Dana
