Do I have to buy a guitar preamp to amplify?
I am planning to buy an acoustic soundhole pickup(magnetic).
I was just going to plug in the jack into my cd player
(since i don't have a guitar amp..it's way expensive)
then i wondered if i needed 'preamp' to get the amplifying done.
i don't want to spend too much. i don't need any sound effects...
Is preamp necessary?
Ask the company or the salesman if the pickup gives a "line level" or a "mic level" aka "guitar level" aka "instrument level".
If it puts out a "line level" then you don't need an additional preamp.
If it doesn't, you'll need one, since most everything needs a line level input unless it explicitly says "mic in".
