link between guitar amps and hearing lose......?
i play guitar, i recently been turning my amp up to about 4, which is loud, well for my small room anyway, with heavy over drive. i dont want to have hearing lose, so i have military ear defenders and i also put cotton wool in my ears underneath the ear defenders. i dont like using ear plugs cos i dont like puttting things in my ear canals which hurts my ears. so putting cotton wool in my ears, then putting military ear defenders on, should that preserve my hearing?

It will preserve your hearing. I toured for years at high volume and my ears are still perfect.
The problem is to not get the sound directly at ear level. Turn the amp or yourself slightly at an angle. You will still hear perfectly but it won't be directly aimed at the ear drum.
