Want some good pickups to render the tone from Eddie Van Halen's sound?
What pickups are EVH using in his frankenstein? I want to get a sound a little more clearer up on the high notes?
I've read that Eddie himself hand wound the pickups for his classic Van Halen guitars. You can try Dimarzios or Seymour Duncans - I'd stay away from the really high-gain, high-output pickups. Look for a slightly distorted model with tons of harmonics.
Much of EVHs sound comes not from his gear, but from his playing technique and fingers... don't get caught up in the whole "If I have the same gear as he does, I'll sound like him too" game.
